Elena is a video designer, scenographer, technologist, and scholar who has worked in regional theater, independent theater, and performance.

In the past five years, she designed video and stage in theaters and site-specific in Germany, Europe, and the US.
Her approach explores the use of technologies like PTZ cameras, live feeding, and film on stage as an effective way for technology to enter the theatrical process and inhabit dramaturgy. Her interest in technology, software, and archives are only a few elements she brings to the in-between performative and installation space.

In 2024 she mitarbeit video design together with video designer Benjamin Krieg the piece Draußen vor der Tür, directed by Adrian Figueroa in D’Haus Düsseldorf (entered the 10 most audience’s appreciated piece by Nachkritik Theatertreffen 2025).
She designed video and scenography in Fremd premiered at Theater Im Depot Dortmund (2024), and Kulturbünker, Köln (2025).
In 2023 she designed the video system and content in Nomadas, for the first play with a professional video design of Teatro OBando in Lisbon, supported by the European project PlayOn.
Elena was assistant video designer for Susanne Steinmassl as live camera coordinator on stage, content creator, and film editor in Die Nibelungen Festspiele in Worms in 2023.

Her design has been seen internationally at The Kitchen Theater in New York [stage design and projections for The Sasquatch Rituals, Sybil Kempton, 2018] and the Barichstaadt Opera in Munich [Singularity, Stefano di Buduo, 2021].

After receiving her Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Elena completes her studies at Yale School of Drama (Technical Design and Production // Design for Theatre).

Since 2021 Elena has been an Artist in Residence in Germany, based in NRW, Dortmund as a fellow artist at the Akademie für Theater und Digitalität with the project AI-assisted theater design together with light designer Samuel Chan from Hong Kong.

In 2024, the long theater piece Codes of Absence premiered in Berlin at Vierte Welt, following the 2023 NRW premiere at Theater Im Depot, as her first directing experience while also in video design. In 2023 she designed stage and directed the short piece Coded Rituals. The performance was presented in the Festival Beyond Gravity in 2023 co-produced by Theater Im Depot.

In 2022 she was part of Digital Body Archive residency at Lake Studios Berlin and of the project Togather with the VR installation Unlearning Journey into a Virtual Body. The project was funded by the NRW International visitor program and presented at Favoriten Festival 2022 – Unlearning for Possible Futures.
